In Britain, a career is portrayed as a necessity for all young adults to aspire towards. Whether you're academically inclined or not, careers of varying natures are laid out in front of you in the form of colourful prospectuses and friendly guidance mentors. Career success is often associated with high salaries, influential positions or satisfaction with life in general.

However, the reality on the ground is far different from the picture painted. Individuals commonly find themselves under stress, exhaustion, and disappointment disillusioned as to whether all of their hard effort is truly worth it. Enjoyment is often marred by financial targets and demanding deadlines and work (over time) has the tendency to become repetitive and boring.

For the rare few, who do find themselves in a lucrative and exciting career a capitalist persona often intoxicates their personality, typical of candidates featured yearly on the BBC1 television series, ‘The Apprentice'. Qualities such as ruthlessness, the ability to manipulate and arrogance are sought after whilst honesty, shyness and piety are shunned as unbeneficial.

Due to the negative dogma surrounding part-time or unpaid voluntary work individuals wanting to move on with life unhappy with their career prospects find themselves unable to break free, frightened of failing to secure another job and being labelled a ‘sponger' or being unable to finance their extravagant lifestyles and consequently, continue this modern day slavery with daily sorrow.

In truth what is found, is that the majority of the UK workforce is overworked and unhappy, finding no quality time to spend with their families or friends apart from a short weekend consumed by shopping and trivial chores. No surprise is it then to discover that every year in England and Wales there are an estimated 4,700 suicides, a large proportion of which are no doubt career related.

Islam is the Solution:

Islam provides a unique system of life not only agreeable to the nature of man but also void of any corruption. The Islamic economic system, for example aims to ensure that every transaction carried out involves the explanation of all defects (al-tibyan al-ayb), is  completed with ease and friendliness (al-tas'heel ) and a supplication (dua) of guidance for the non-Muslim and reward for the Muslim is even offered at the end.

Due to the established fact that the shari'ah is divine and not man-made, individuals are constantly reminded to ensure that all of their thoughts and actions are based upon the commands of their Creator, God and not on personal whims and desires. Consequently, unjust, fraudulent and sleazy jobs such as bailiffs, bookmakers, and porn ‘artists' would be abolished, generating a society of individuals that secure decent and upright work.

Every individual under the shari'ah will be given the opportunity to choose a career path if desired, with no ridicule administered whether in public or private if legitimately refused and because one of the primary functions of the Islamic State is to provide food, clothing and shelter free of charge, any fear of poverty would be far removed and replaced with peace and tranquillity.

So ask yourself: are you truly happy with your career? Wouldn't you prefer a life governed by a divine system that justly caters for everyone's individual needs employed or unemployed? Why not try Islam?
