PRESS RELEASE DATED 6TH OCTOBER 2008:

In a vicious racist attack last week portraying the extent of anti-Muslim tactics employed by police in Britain today, a 46 year old Muslim father picking up his children from school was brutally attacked by police officers in Leicestershire over what started off as a parking dispute. Mr Baddru Musani, was incredibly assaulted outside Spinney Hill Primary School on the afternoon of Thursday the 2nd of October 2008 at approximately 3:30pm, in the North Evington area of Leicester. Police officers were so outraged by the fact that Mr Musani wanted to remain on a yellow line for a minute longer to pick up his primary school children that they not only grabbed him in a head-lock and pushed him to the floor but also deliberately reached into the back of the car and pepper-spraying his two young daughters, one of which is just 8 years old! There was understandable panic and shock among the large number of children, parents and local residents who witnessed this, at how the police could possible justify such outrageous behaviour, many of whom have promised to come forward as witnesses should this matter reach the courts.

In a social climate already burdened with community breakdown and tension, this case is an eye-opener for those under the false impression that Muslims are not being targeted by the British regime and their police. To have acted in such a shocking manner in front of primary school children, parents and the residents of a local area provokes images of apartheid South Africa or America in the 1960's not Britain in 2008. The fact that the police think that they can confidently get away with such behaviour shows that prejudice and Islamophobia have become a widespread and acceptable part of life for Muslims in the UK today.

Mr Musani, a widower and father of 6, was arrested and released the following day pending further enquiries by the police, leaving his young children at home to fend for themselves throughout this time. This has naturally left the young family traumatised. Moreover during his illegal custody he was taken to hospital to examine pain which had been inflicted on his lower back from the arrest.

Such occurrences are not the first in Leicester or on a national level and remaining silent in the face of oppression is obviously not an option, especially for those who wish to see a society which is Just. This case highlights the failure of man made law to provide justice and the need for Islam as an alternative way of life.
